158. John 17:4-8 – Glory Before the Creation of the World
Glory Before the Creation of the World
John 17:4–8
Biblical Text:
4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
6 I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.
7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.
8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.

👑 Glory Before the Beginning
Jesus asks for the glory He had “before the world was.”
He did not begin in Bethlehem —
He came from eternity.
Bethlehem is not the beginning, but the entry point into history.
He did not become great — He came already great.
📖 Parallel passages:
John 1:1–3 — “In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God… all things were made through Him”
John 8:58 — “Before Abraham was, I AM”
Colossians 1:16–17 — “all things were created through Him and for Him… and He is before all things”
Philippians 2:6–7 — “being in the form of God… made Himself of no reputation”
Micah 5:2 — “His goings forth are from of old, from everlasting”
Hebrews 1:2–3 — “through whom also He made the worlds”
These passages show:
Jesus is not just part of history.
He is its beginning.

🔥 The Deity of Christ Through His Eternity
If Jesus existed before the creation of the world, then He is not a created being.
Everything created has a beginning.
Jesus does not.
The Bible directly connects His eternity with His deity:
He was not only “before” —
He is the One through whom all things came into existence.
The phrase “I AM” (John 8:58) points to the name of God (Exodus 3:14).
This is not just a statement about time — it is a statement about nature.
That is why the eternity of Christ is not a secondary detail.
It is the foundation for understanding who He truly is.
