183. John 20:14–18 – The Teacher’s Voice

The Teacher’s Voice

John 20:14–18

🌿 She Saw Jesus — but Did Not Recognize Him
Mary was standing near Christ, yet because of her tears and grief, she did not understand who was standing before her. Sometimes we can become so overwhelmed by pain and emotions that we fail to notice God’s presence beside us. Christ is already near, but the heart is still filled with sorrow.

💔 She Was Looking for the Dead — but Met the Living One
Mary came to the tomb searching for the body of her Teacher. She expected to see the results of death, but instead she met the One who conquered death. Very often people only seek comfort, while Christ wants to give something far greater — a living relationship with Him.

🗣 One Word Changed Everything
Jesus spoke only one word:

“Mary!”

And in that moment everything changed.
She did not recognize His face, clothing, or appearance — she recognized the voice of the Teacher.

This beautifully connects with Christ’s words that His sheep hear His voice and that He calls them by name. Real relationship with Christ is not only about knowing facts about Him, but about learning to recognize His voice.

🐑 The Shepherd Knows His Sheep by Name
Jesus did not speak to Mary in a distant or impersonal way. He knew her personally. He knew her tears, fears, love, and devotion. Christ knows every believer not as part of a crowd, but individually, like a shepherd knows each sheep in his flock.

“Rabboni!” — The Voice of the Heart
Mary answered, “Teacher!”
This was more than a title. It was the joy of someone hearing once again the voice of the One she loved. Moments earlier she had been crying at the tomb, but now she stood before the risen Christ.

📢 Meeting Christ Leads to Witnessing
Jesus did not leave Mary simply enjoying the moment. He sent her to the disciples. A true encounter with the risen Christ always changes a person and turns them into a witness for others.

🛠 Practical Application

• 📖 Learn to Recognize Christ’s Voice
The closer a person stays to God’s Word, the easier it becomes to recognize the Teacher’s voice among all the voices of the world.

• 🙏 Do Not Judge Reality Only by Feelings
Mary thought everything was lost, yet Christ was standing right beside her. Our emotions do not always reflect reality.

• 🐑 Remember: Christ Knows You Personally
You are not just another face in the crowd. God knows your name, your pain, your fears, and your prayers.

• 👂 Be Sensitive to God’s Voice
Sometimes God speaks through Scripture, sermons, circumstances, or quiet conviction in the heart. We must be careful not to drown out His voice with the noise of the world.

• 📢 Tell Others About Your Encounter with Christ
Mary ran to tell the disciples about the resurrection. Genuine faith does not remain silent.

🌅 Main Thought
Mary recognized the risen Jesus by His voice. The Teacher’s voice brought her from tears to joy, from confusion to faith. Christ knows His people by name, and His voice still calls people to life and hope today.

Conclusion:
Sometimes pain and sorrow keep us from seeing Jesus clearly. But when Christ speaks to a person’s heart, His voice can restore hope, faith, and joy.
