123.John 12:31-36-Value the Time While the Light Is Available

Value the Time While the Light Is Available

(John 12:31–36)

📖 Biblical Text

31. Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

32. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to Myself.

33. He said this to show by what kind of death He was going to die.

34. The crowd answered Him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can You say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

35. So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

36. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, He departed and hid Himself from them.

🌍 The Illusion of “Later”

People were arguing with Jesus about prophecy and the eternal kingdom. They thought there was plenty of time. They could figure it out later. They could believe someday.

But Christ said: “The light is with you only a little while longer.”

He moved the conversation from theory to urgency. The light is not only truth — it is access to Him, and that access is not endless.

⏳ The Most Dangerous Mistake

We assume we can always come to God.

Later I’ll repent. Later I’ll start praying. Later I’ll change my life.

But we do not know what tomorrow holds. Life can end suddenly. The heart can grow hard. Opportunity can pass.

Darkness in this passage is not atheism. It is postponing.

🪞 Illustration: “I’ll Wash Next Year”

Imagine a person who decides not to wash for an entire year. He lives in dirt and smells unpleasant, yet says: “Next year I’ll wash and be clean. For now it’s fine — I have no important meetings anyway.”

Who suffers? Only himself.

In the same way, a person who postpones repentance thinks he is delaying his meeting with God. In reality, he is delaying a clean life. Why live in darkness if you can step into the light today?

✝️ Why Coming Earlier Matters

Christ does not only save at the end of life — He blesses the whole life.

The earlier a person comes to Christ, the more he receives: inner peace, protection from destructive choices, years of meaningful living, spiritual growth, and fruit.

We are not postponing judgment — we are postponing blessing.

🌟 Main Idea

While the heart can still hear God — that is light.

While the desire to seek remains — that is opportunity.

Value the time while the light is available. Because tomorrow may never become the “later” we rely on.
