135.John 14:4-6-Jesus — The Only Way

📖 Jesus — The Only Way

John 14:4–6

4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

🧭 The disciples are looking for the way

This conversation takes place during Jesus’ last evening with His disciples. He tells them that He is going to the Father and preparing a place for them. Then He adds:

“You know the way.”

But the disciples do not understand what He means. Thomas honestly admits:

“We do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?”

Thomas does not pretend that he understands everything. He asks a simple and sincere question. That question becomes the occasion for one of the most important statements Jesus ever made.

🔍 Thomas — a disciple searching for the way

Thomas is often remembered as “doubting Thomas,” but the Gospel shows him differently. He is not afraid to ask questions and seeks clarity.

Earlier, when Jesus was about to go to Judea where His life was in danger, Thomas told the other disciples:

“Let us also go, that we may die with Him.” (John 11:16)

These are the words of someone willing to follow his Teacher even into danger.

Thomas is not looking for comforting words — he is searching for the real way.

✝️ Jesus is not a signpost — He is the way

Jesus’ answer to Thomas is unexpected:

“I am the way…”

He does not say:
• “I will show the way”
• “I will teach the way”
• “I will explain the way.”

He says that He Himself is the way.

The disciples are thinking about a route or direction. But Jesus is talking about a person. The way to God is not philosophy, religion, or a system of rules. The way to God is Jesus Christ Himself.

📜 Three great words

Jesus describes Himself with three words.

The way — through Him a person can come to the Father.
The truth — in Him the true character of God is revealed.
The life — He gives spiritual and eternal life.

In Christ a person finds direction, truth, and life.

🚪 The only way to the Father

Jesus speaks very clearly:

“No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

This means that there is only one way to God.

Sometimes people think that a person can be saved through:
• good works
• religion
• philosophy
• spiritual practices
• knowledge
• personal righteousness.

But the Bible teaches that none of these paths can bring a person to the Father.

The apostles later confirmed the same truth.

Acts 4:12

“Nor is there salvation in any other.”

1 Timothy 2:5

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”

Again and again the Bible declares that the way to God is opened only through Jesus Christ.

✨ Conclusion

Thomas was searching for the way, not realizing that the way was already standing in front of him.

Many people search for God in many places while missing the most important thing.

Jesus does not simply show the road to God.

He Himself is the way to the Father.
