137.John 14:12-14-The Continuation of Christ’s Mission Through His Disciples

✨ The Continuation of Christ’s Mission Through His Disciples

📖 John 14:12–14

12 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
13 And whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

When Jesus spoke these words, the disciples were troubled. He had just told them that He would soon leave. They were used to seeing Him teach, heal, and lead people to God. The natural question in their hearts was: what will happen next?

Jesus’ answer is surprising. He tells them that His work will not end. In fact, it will continue through His disciples.

🌍 The Works of Christ Continue

Jesus says:

“Whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do.”

This means that Christ’s mission is not limited to His earthly life. He began His ministry personally, but then entrusted it to His disciples.

The disciples would:
• preach the gospel
• teach the truth
• lead people to God
• build the church

Through them, Christ continues to work in the world.

🚀 “Greater Works Than These”

Jesus adds:

“and greater works than these will he do.”

This does not mean the disciples would become greater than Jesus or perform more impressive miracles. The point is the scale of the mission.

During His earthly life, Jesus ministered mainly in one region and for about three years. After His ascension, the disciples would take the gospel throughout the world. What began with a small group of followers would grow into a movement reaching all nations.

🔥 Why This Became Possible

Jesus explains the reason:

“because I am going to the Father.”

His departure did not mean the end of His work. Instead, it opened a new era. After His ascension, Christ sent the Holy Spirit and continued to work through His followers.

If during His earthly life Christ ministered through one body, now He works through millions of believers around the world.

📡 Modern Evangelism

Today we can clearly see how these words are being fulfilled.

The gospel spreads not only through personal preaching but also through modern tools:
• Bible translations and distribution
• films about the life of Christ
• Christian radio and television
• the Internet, YouTube, and podcasts
• social media and online ministries

A single message can now reach thousands or even millions of people. This is another example of how Christ continues His work through His disciples.

🙏 Prayer and the Mission

Jesus says:

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”

Prayer becomes part of God’s mission. The phrase “in My name” means asking in harmony with the character of Jesus, for His mission, and for the glory of God.

⚠️ The Myth of Unfailing Prayer

Sometimes people read these words and conclude that God must grant every prayer. When that does not happen, disappointment can follow.

But the Bible shows that God answers prayer in different ways. We can think of it as a traffic light of prayer:
• 🟢 Yes — God grants the request.
• 🔴 No — God knows it would not be good for us.
• 🟡 Wait — the time for the answer has not yet come.

So when God’s answer does not match our expectations, it does not mean He has ignored us. God sees further than we do and leads us toward a better outcome.

✨ Conclusion

Jesus’ words in John 14:12–14 reveal an amazing truth: Christ’s mission did not end with His earthly life.

The risen and ascended Christ continues to work through His disciples. Through preaching, service, and prayer, the gospel keeps spreading across the world.

The story of Jesus’ mission did not end two thousand years ago — it continues today through those who follow Him.
