Jesus Walks on Water

John 6:16–21

16 When evening came, the disciples went down to the sea.
17 They got into a boat and set out toward Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
18 A strong wind was blowing, and the sea grew rough.
19 After they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water and approaching the boat, and they were terrified.
20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
21 Then they gladly took Him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

When Jesus Comes Into Your Storm

In our lives we often face strong storms: betrayal, humiliation, persecution, fears, loneliness, sickness, financial struggles, everyday problems, depression. Sometimes storms hit us wave after wave. We can barely handle one wave, and then the second and the third crash over us. We become exhausted physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and there seems to be no end to the storm.

It feels like the shore is far away.
It feels like we are somewhere in the darkness, far from God.

And then — a miracle happens.
The Lord of nature, the Lord of the universe, comes walking on the water.
And He is coming toward us.

Even when we see no way out, God is in control.
Where we see hopelessness and an endless sea of problems — it is there that we can see Christ doing the impossible, walking on top of the very things that overwhelm us.

The Gospel of John intentionally does not mention the moment when the storm stopped (though the other Gospels tell us it did). Because the main point is this:

When Jesus is near, the storm no longer has power — even before it ends.
