142. John 15:1-3 – I Am the True Vine

🌿 I Am the True Vine

📖 John 15:1–3

📖 Biblical Text

1 I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

🍷 Wine — the Basic Drink of Life

In the time of Jesus, grapes and wine were not something rare or only for celebrations — they were a daily source of drinking. Water was often unsafe, so wine (diluted and relatively weak — around 3–4% alcohol) was used regularly.

This is important to understand:
👉 wine = life, sustenance, normal daily living

So when Jesus says He is the Vine, people heard:
👉 “I am the source of what you depend on every day”

🍞💧💡 Jesus in Every Essential Area of Life

In Gospel of John, Jesus reveals Himself through the most basic necessities:
• 📖 John 6 — “I am the bread of life”
• 📖 John 4 — “living water”
• 📖 John 8 — “the light of the world”
• 📖 John 15 — “the Vine”

💥 This is not random

Jesus is showing:
👉 I am not just part of your life
👉 I am the foundation of it

🍷 Connection with the First Miracle

📖 John 2

Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine — and not just wine, but the best wine.

👉 At the beginning of the Gospel, Jesus gives wine
👉 Later, He reveals: He is the source

✂️ The Father — the Vinedresser

Jesus says:

👉 “The Father prunes every branch that bears fruit”
• what is unnecessary is removed
• what is weak is cut off
• what is good is refined

👉 so that more fruit can grow

🌿 “You Are Already Clean”

Jesus says:

👉 “You are already clean”

💡 Through His word, which:
• does not only teach
• but transforms from within

🌿 The Structure of Life in Christ

Jesus shows a clear order:

👉 Christ — the Vine (the main source)
👉 we — the branches (carriers of life)

The fruit appears through the branches, but:

💥 it is not their achievement
👉 it is the result of the life flowing from the Vine
• a branch produces nothing by itself
• it only receives and passes on

👉 That’s why it’s important:

not to put ourselves at the center,
but to keep Christ in His rightful place

🎯 Conclusion

👉 Wine was a basic part of life, and the vine was its source. Jesus shows that He is not just the One who gives blessings, but the very source of life in every area. Just as people depended on wine daily, today a person depends completely on Christ.

👉 Don’t chase the result — stay connected to the Source.
Without Christ, there is no true life.
