144. John 15:7-8 – Ask for Resources for Fruit

🌿 Ask for Resources for Fruit

John 15:7–8

7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be My disciples.

🍇 Context

Before and after the phrase “ask whatever you wish”, Jesus is speaking about the vine and the necessity of bearing fruit.

👉 So this is not about any kind of desire.
👉 It is about asking for resources needed to produce fruit.

🌱 How fruit is formed in a branch

Fruit appears through a system of resource delivery:
• Xylem brings water and minerals
• Phloem delivers sugars and organic substances

But the key element here is the vine.

🔗 Key connection: everything comes through the vine

Even though water and minerals come from the roots, and sugars are produced in the leaves,

👉 everything passes through the vine
• the vine connects all parts of the plant
• all nourishment flows through it
• it sustains the very life of the branch

Even the leaves that produce sugars exist because the vine:
• supplied resources for their growth
• continues to sustain them

❗ The branch is completely dependent on the vine — in everything.

🍇 Parallel: resources for fruit

💧 Water → The Holy Spirit

For the plant: sustains cell life and movement of substances
Spiritually: gives life, inner filling, and movement

🌱 Nitrogen (N) → Fellowship and support

For the plant: growth of leaves and green mass
Spiritually: growth through community and encouragement

Phosphorus (P) → Strength for service

For the plant: energy (ATP), fruit development
Spiritually: energy to act and serve

🔥 Potassium (K) → The Word of God

For the plant: quality and sweetness of the fruit
Spiritually: depth, maturity, and “sweetness” of fruit

🧱 Calcium (Ca) → Foundation and stability

For the plant: cell strength
Spiritually: firmness, faithfulness, endurance

🌿 Magnesium (Mg) → Understanding truth

For the plant: photosynthesis (light absorption)
Spiritually: ability to perceive truth

🧬 Sulfur (S) → Character formation

For the plant: protein synthesis
Spiritually: inner transformation

🎯 Boron (B) → Fruit formation

For the plant: fruit set and development
Spiritually: influence on others, discipleship

👉 The branch does not produce these resources itself.
👉 It receives them through the vine.

📡 Signals of deficiency

Modern science has shown that:
• when a plant lacks nutrients, it changes hormone levels
• it sends signals through the phloem
• it redistributes resources

It has also been discovered that plants use:
• peptides
• RNA signals
• electrical impulses

📅 Key research spans from the 1920s to today (especially 2010–2024)

💡 A plant is not just a “pipe” — it is a system of signaling and regulation.

🔥 Spiritual parallel

👉 A plant has signals of need
👉 But it does not have its own source

So in Jesus’ words:

prayer is an expression of need, not random desire

⚠️ The limit of “whatever you wish”

A branch does not “ask” for:
• toxins
• destructive substances
• useless elements

👉 because it is “aligned” with fruit

In the same way, a person who abides in Christ:
• does not seek what is destructive
• does not pursue emptiness
• does not ask randomly

👉 but asks for what makes them fruitful

🍷 Conclusion

Jesus is not teaching us to ask for everything.
He is teaching us to ask for resources for fruit.

When a person abides in Him:
• their desires are purified
• their requests become aligned
• and God provides everything needed

👉 because the goal is to bear fruit and glorify the Father
