143. John 15:4-6 – “I am the vine, you are the branches”

🌿 “I am the vine, you are the branches”

John 15:4-6

4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

🌱 Main idea: life is for fruit

Jesus is not just describing connection, but its purpose.

👉 A branch exists to bear fruit
👉 Connection with Christ must produce results

If there is no fruit, the problem is not activity — it’s connection to the Vine.

🌿 Vine and branches: roles

— Christ is the source of life
— we are the branches
— fruit is the result of His life in us

👉 We are not the source, but the channel

🍃 Leaves: what they are for

👉 receive resources
👉 sustain life
👉 support growth

But:

👉 their purpose is to serve the fruit

🌱 Our “leaves” today

— work
— education
— family
— ministry

These are good — as long as they lead to fruit.

⚠️ When leaves become the problem

👉 they consume all energy
👉 they push God out
👉 they leave no room for fruit

The result: activity and busyness, but no fruit.

🔥 Fruitless branches are burned

“…they are thrown into the fire and burned”

👉 fruitlessness is not neutral
👉 it leads to withering and destruction

🍇 What is fruit

— a changed life
— love
— obedience to God
— influence on others

🧭 Structure of life in Christ

— Christ is the Vine
— we are the branches
— fruit is the result

💡 The point

👉 We are branches of Jesus, and our purpose is to bear fruit

If there is no fruit —
we are not fulfilling our purpose.
