151. John 16:8-11 – He Will Convict the World
He Will Convict the World
John 16:8–11
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

🌍 The Holy Spirit Is More Than a Comforter
Many people love to speak of the Holy Spirit as the Comforter, but Jesus shows another side of His ministry: He convicts. Before God heals a person, He exposes the disease. Without conviction, there can be no true repentance.
⸻
⛓️ Of Sin
“Of sin, because they do not believe in Me”
The greatest sin is not merely bad behavior—it is rejecting Christ. A person may be moral and religious, yet still remain lost without faith in Him. The Holy Spirit destroys the illusion: “I’m a decent person, so I’m fine.”
⸻
✝️ Of Righteousness
“Of righteousness, because I go to My Father”
Christ’s ascension proved His righteousness. The world condemned Jesus as a criminal, but God vindicated Him. The Holy Spirit shows that human standards of righteousness are often false, and that true righteousness is defined by God.
⸻
⚖️ Of Judgment
“Of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged”
Satan is still active, but his sentence has already been declared. The cross marked the beginning of his defeat. This means: judgment against evil is certain, and no one will escape God’s justice.

💡 Conclusion
When the Holy Spirit works, He turns on a spiritual spotlight and reveals three realities:
⛓️ Sin — You are not as innocent as you think.
✝️ Righteousness — God’s standard is higher than man’s.
⚖️ Judgment — Evil will not go unpunished.
Conviction is painful, but it is through conviction that salvation begins.
