150. John 16:5-7 – Completion of Jesus’ Mission
Completion of Jesus’ Mission
John 16:5–7
5 “But now I am going to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”
😢 The Disciples Saw Loss, Christ Saw Completion
To the disciples, Jesus’ departure looked like a tragedy. It seemed as if they were losing their Teacher and everything was falling apart. But Christ saw it differently: His departure was not defeat—it was the completion of His earthly mission.
🎯 Why Jesus Came to Earth
Jesus did not come merely to live among people. His mission was specific: to reveal the Father, fulfill the Law, live a sinless life, die for the sins of the world, rise again, and return to the Father in glory. Once that mission was completed, remaining on earth was no longer the goal.
🔄 His Departure Opened a New Stage of God’s Plan
That is why Jesus said, “It is better for you that I go away.” His departure opened the next stage of salvation history—the coming of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of a new era. Before, God was beside the disciples in Christ; now, through the Spirit, He would dwell within believers.
👑 The Ascension Shows the Work Was Finished
Christ’s ascension is not a farewell or retreat. It is the sign that His earthly work was successfully completed and that a new stage of God’s plan had begun.
🔥 Main Point
If Jesus went away, it means the mission was accomplished.
If the Spirit came, it means a new era began.
