82. John 8:12 – Jesus — the Light of the World

Jesus — the Light of the World

 John 8:12

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”

In our time, when we say “there is no light,” it means more than just sitting in a dark room. It means no electricity: life slows down, production stops, food in the refrigerator spoils, learning is interrupted, communication with many people is cut off, and news and information become limited.

Sometimes a person says, “I no longer see any light,” and they are not talking about a lamp. They mean there is no hope, no color in life, no joy, no direction to move toward.

That is why light in the Gospel is more than photons. A spiritual power outage is far worse than being without electricity for several days.

Without light, you can sit in the dark. But without the light of Christ, a person perishes in spiritual darkness.
